National SNOMED CT Implementation Programme Commissioned by Scottish Government

In December 2019, the Scottish Government stated its intention to move forward with a clear programme of work to support the strategic intention of moving to SNOMED CT in Scotland. Dr Brendan O’Brien was appointed Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) for the programme in June 2021, following the pandemic response. Recruitment then took place to appoint individuals into roles and the core programme team was established in January 2022. Early priorities for the programme were:

  • The implementation of an NHSScotland Terminology Server
  • To refresh the 2015 Impact Assessment of Migration from READ to SNOMED CT
  • The development of an Outline Business Case
